19. If Holm was a country, it would be Latvia

One of the strangest experiences in my life so far, was the first time when I saw people from Holm. I was in 7th grade at Örjanskolan.
Holm is a small, rural village outside of Halmstad, and they arrived for classes in our city school with a special bus. A special bus for special people, with many exotic habits.
Now imagine that you would stretch out the village of Holm until it becomes an entire country. It would look a lot like this. Latvia.

The picture isn't actually very representative, because the roads of Latvia are mostly constructed like the sand traps you find at a golf court. With some gravel and big rocks for variety.

I found this abandoned Latvian/Holmian industrial building next to a river, and decided to do some urban exploring and check it out. But as soon as I parked and locked my bicycle, a zombie-looking man with pink eyes came out of the building and walked past me. Maybe he was living there. I decided to move on.

George, the flying demon insect.
The wildlife of Latvia mostly consists of things that fly and bite, things that fly and don't bite (so many storks!), and dead toads and snakes lining the roadside.

Right next to this sheep farm I found the house of a cute young couple who just had their first baby. I regret that I didn't take their picture, because they were amazing.
They had just bought the house they were living in, and they were still waiting to be connected to the communal water supply. So they still had to buy water at the store to get by. But this didn't stop them from using the last of the water they had to refill my bottles!
I think that was an incredible display of kindness. And I hope people from Holm would do the same if a Latvian biker came by.
